150 Years of
lakeside Cool
Overview
This identity system celebrates the Minneapolis Chain of Lakes and the vibrant parks that surround them. In honor of the 150th anniversary of Parks by the Lakes in 2025, the design draws direct inspiration from the unique shapes of each lake in the chain: Lake of the Isles, Brownie Lake, Cedar Lake, Bde Maka Ska, and Lake Harriet.
Approach
At the heart of the system is a consistent left-side banner that symbolizes the connection between the lakes through an abstract collage combining all five lake forms. Using topographical data sourced from the Department of Natural Resources (DNR), distinct patterns were created to represent each individual lake.
The result is a bold, colorful, and welcoming visual system designed to reflect the spirit of community, nature, and celebration—inviting all park visitors to engage with the legacy and beauty of Minneapolis's iconic lake parks.
