Open Eyes
Film Festival

Overview

This poster series promotes Open Eyes, a 24-hour experimental media festival held at the Walker Art Center. The objective was to design a unified system of three event posters that visually express the festival’s continuous, midnight-to-midnight format.

Approach

To initiate the creative process, inspiration was drawn from industrial soundscapes, leading to exploratory mark-making, word associations, and extensive visual research. The imagery centers around the motif of irises—primarily human eyes, with subtle variations introduced through animal eyes to add nuance and visual intrigue.

Each poster represents a distinct time of day—Sunrise/Sunset, Midday, and Midnight—using color palettes tailored to evoke the atmosphere of each time period. To emphasize the passage of time and add visual depth, layered eye collages were integrated into the background of each composition.
